Magic Beans w/ Tone Dog

Animas City Theatre Presents Magic Beans & Special Guest Tone Dog21+/$20  Tickets on sale now online Denver’s Magic Beans return April 30th, 2021 with their third studio album, Slice of Life, a 14 song documentation of a year spent away from the familiar confines of the road. When the pandemic hit, Magic Beans had dozens of shows cancelled, so they hopped into their studio in Denver, CO and started recording songs. Produced by Magic Beans – and Mastered by David Glasser (The Grateful Dead’s long time Mastering engineer) – Funk, soul, live electronica, and even bluegrass music find their way into this songbook from 4 band members that each bring their own flavor to the project. The different feels in the double record coexist harmoniously as the listener is slowly ramped up throughout the record. By the time you hit the second vinyl, the organic sounds of B3 organ and acoustic guitar give way to synths and drum sampling almost as if you’re descending into night. The inspiration for the title “Slice of Life” is just that. A random and unplanned snapshot of the band in this time and place, a self portrait done unknowingly. “Throughout our days as a traveling band, we’ve encountered many a situation that is unexplainably surreal in its abnormality, but at the same time indicative of the location, culture, and context we find ourselves. “A person partaking in an activity you didn’t know existed wearing an outfit you’ve only seen in a dream, or a collision of occurrences just rare and unusual enough that you think you’re living in a simulation just to be in that place, sounds of B3 organ and acoustic guitar give way to synths and drum sampling almost as if you’re descending into night. https://www.magicbeansmusic.comhttps://www.instagram.com/themagicbeans “Tone Dog was created out of a shared passion for playing and improvising together for live audiences. The group was born in southwest Colorado on a sheep farm, where Alex Graf (Guitar, Vocals), Tony Holmquist (Mandolin, Vocals) and Silas Hamilton (Bass, Fiddle, Vocals) first started playing for small groups of family and friends.  After the 2020 disruptions to life, all three members realized life is too short, and it’s best spent doing what they loved the most, playing music together, live. With diverse sets of musical backgrounds, ranging from jazz, grunge, traditional Irish, dance, old time, and The Dead, the trio combines varying sounds into a unique iteration of driving, purpose-filled bluegrass music. Tone Dog pulls from the deep wellspring of traditional music and reimagines it in a nuanced and exciting way. Fast picking, vocal harmonies, exciting arrangements and vibrant live energy bring them to the forefront of emerging bluegrass music in Colorado.”

Ott. , The Monogahela, Smiley Coyote TICKETS AT THE DOOR

TICKETS AT THE DOORAnimas City Theatre PresentsOtt. with special guest The Monogahela, & Smiley CoyoteHSD Subs Provided by Unify Mountain SoundzTuesday March 7th, 2023$40 / 21+Ott was doomed to be a teenager in the cultural wasteland that was the mid-1980’s provincial England. After a brief period wandering aimlessly through the hairsprayed deserts of New Romanticism and poodle-rock he found refuge in the warm, inviting sounds of Scientist, King Tubby, LKJ, and Prince Far-I and the effortless grace of European experimentalists Neu! and Kraftwerk. Here he stayed until he felt it was safe to pop his head up again. The end of the 1980’s brought with it a cultural and musical revolution and Ott headed to London to immerse himself in the new energy. Initially unimpressed by the frantic, unmusical clatterings of acid house and “rave” he discovered a new wave of artists who apparently shared his love of organic dub and pristine electronics. Artists such as The Orb, Dub Syndicate, FSOL and African Head Charge. These were people who were unafraid to combine bass-heavy rhythm, abstract soundscape and timeless melody into a huge, ever-shifting sonic universe which reflected perfectly the spirit of hope and positivity which prevailed. It was at this point that Ott found his first work as an engineer in several studios around North London. Working obsessively, 18 hours a day, seven days a week for the next ten years, Ott began developing the skills which would see him go on to work with many of those who created the sounds which inspired him in the first place – Brian Eno, The Orb, Youth, African Head Charge, Steve Hillage, and On-U-Sound.After spending the 1990’s freelancing around London as a studio engineer and producer, Ott celebrated the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st by giving it all up and moving to a remote cottage in South West England to be alone with his cats and his studio. With a vague plan to create the perfect soundtrack to an outdoor English festival he embarked on a series of sonic experiments, drawing heavily on the classic dub sounds from Jamaica and hypnotic electronic pulse from Germany which had provided such a refuge during the 1980’s. A period of intense creativity followed, during which a great many tracks were created and then stashed away on tapes, seemingly never to see the light of day.The Monogahela is an electronic music composer and performer based out of Durango, CO, USA. The Formed in 2014 by Nathan Williams, producing multi-genre bass and electronic music in a range of tempos, often blending eclectic organics with cosmic soundscapes. He has shared the stage with notable acts such as Ott, Illenium, Phutureprimitive, Said the Sky, Govinda, among others.Smiley Coyote dwells in the southwest where the desert meets the mountains. Music has been streaming through his veins since birth. Attending West Coast festivals such as Burning Man, Symbiosis, Lightning in a Bottle and Beloved are what sparked the desire to share musical journeys through DJing. He’s enjoyed sharing the stage with some of the top producers in the industry as well as performed for many festivals.  His musical selections are genre-bending and able to appease most audiences as long as they enjoy a touch of bass.  Sharing audible frequencies to the Ecstatic Dance community is most fulfilling. Being able to craft a multiple hour set on the fly in support of people’s movement practice truly brings him the highest level of joy.  Being a co-producer of Unison Festival, he is constantly on the search for new musical inspiration in order to curate Colorado’s premier transformational event.

Dirtwire Ghostcatcher Tour with Bloomurian

Tickets on sale online Friday November 11th at 10am DIRTWIRE Dirtwire stands poised between ancient Mother Earth and modern technology, a blend of ethnomusicology and the psychedelic trance state, gut-bucket delta blues and what the band variously dubs “back-porch space cowboy blues, swamptronica, and electro-twang.” It’s a sound informed by Dirtwire’s travels and performances around the globe, where East meets West and North joins South. From the favelas in Brazil, Femi Kuti’s Shrine in Lagos, Tokyo’s bluegrass clubs, Ayahuasca ceremonies in Central America, Gamelan performances in Bali, desert festivals in the Australian Outback, and the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s modernized new capital Astana, the band spreads its message by building bridges across musical cultures in their own unique way. Dirtwire plays an array of instruments both ancient and modern, including West African kamale ngonis, jaw harps, space fiddles, whamola basses, Rickenbacher electric 12 string guitars, bowed Banjos and mouth harps from around the globe, all interwoven into modern laptop beat creation. Hailing from the underground west coast electronic bass music scene Dirtwire finds itself at the forefront of experimental electronic music production mixing in their wide array of world instruments with sampled beats and 808’s. Dirtwire’s live shows are a communal psychedelic journey, ranging from down home boot stomping get downs, to bass and blues electronic mashups, to ethereal cinematic beat driven soundscapes. Woven into each is the exploration of where live instruments meet computer production, and where tradition meets experimentation.
