Join Elder Grown and journey into the unrecognizable familiar.eldergrownmusic.com Ben Brock Ben Brock is a songwriter born into the tradition of red dirt music. Lyrically, his roots are planted firmly in the Oklahoma clay. His genuine, heartfelt and sometimes melancholy songs are ever growing musical branches providing shade from the harsh and unforgiving dustbowl sun. Listening to Ben is transformative. Within his songs, you will find your best friend, your reluctant lover, your aging father, and sometimes an unexpected version of yourself. Drawing on straightforward guitar playing allows Ben to tell a story with his most powerful instrument – his voice. Passionate, worn and honed smooth from over a decade of gigging in every smoke-filled bar and honky tonk around, his vocals have been shaped into an unassuming, silver-tongued devil and voice of the common man. Ben’s sound is distinctive, convicted and raw – it pulls you into his story from across the room. Releasing his first album, Who I Am, in February 2018, is further proof that Ben has firmly staked his claim as a well-respected musician and songwriter. In support of the project, an entire community of fellow musicians, producers and fans aching for Ben to record, came together and raised $10,000 in less than 30 days. Performing to a sold out crowd at Oklahoma City’s legendary Blue Door in celebration of the album’s release, his supporters turned out in full force. Their commitment to this album ensures the undeniable mark Ben has made to Oklahoma’s songwriting tradition is preserved and will not be forgotten. Who I Am, is much more than one man’s collection of songs, it’s truly who we all are.

Mike Dillion Band ft. Brian Haas & Nikki Glaspie

Animas City Theatre PresentsMike Dillion Band featuring Brian Haas & Nikki GlaspieTickets on sale now onlinePaper Tickets available at Animas Trading Company on Thursday February 17th$18/$20/21+Mike Dillion Band How many artists have been praised a “punk rock provocateur,” “jazz vibraphone visionary,” and “percussion virtuoso” in the same sentence? There’s only one: Mike Dillon. Whether through his affiliation with artists like Les Claypool, Primus, Rickie Lee Jones, Dean Ween Group and Ani Difranco, and collaborations such as Nolatet, Garage a Trois, The Dead Kenny G’s, Critters Buggin or bands he has led, including Mike Dillon Band, Mike Dillon’s New Orleans Punk Rock Percussion Consortium, Billy Goat and Hairy Apes BMX, the Texas-native has set his own standard for 25 years now. Over the past decade, Mike Dillon has released a number of acclaimed albums, intertwining a range of influences from Zappa-esque eccentricity to Fishbone punk funk, D.C. Go-Go to Milt Jackson-influenced vibraphone majesty. Never before, however, has he recorded music so personal and committed to a sustained mood as his latest album, Functioning Broke. The recording finds Dillon solo on vibraphone and various percussion, building each track into its own minimalist, but multi-dimensional auditory landscape. The current version of the Mike Dillon Band features guitarist Cliff Hines, Bassist Nathan Lambertson and a rotating cast of drummers including Claude Coleman Jr. (Ween), Simon Lott, G. Maxwell, Doug Belote and Paul Thibodeaux. With this line up, Dillon has continued exploring the connection between New Orleans street beats, Ska, funk, Hardcore and jazz. The band will release a new record in February 2017 titled, “Life is not a Football.” Produced in New Orleans by Richard Maloney and Dillon with engineers Rick Nelson and Robert Mercurio, this album sounds like a Spotted Cat trad band that grew up playing Dead Kennedys and invited Captain Beefheart over for a dinner cooked by Thelonious Monk. The Mike Dillon Band has supported acts like Galactic, The Revivalists, Clutch, Primus, and Fishbone, while continuing to play music festivals and in cities across the U.S. In 2016, the Gambit’s Big Easy Awards named Mike Dillon “Performer of the Year” and the Mike Dillon Band “Best Punk/Metal Band” in New Orleans. Living in New Orleans for over 10 years now, when not on the road with Rickie Lee Jones, Nolatet, or the Mike Dillon Band, Mike resides in the Musician’s Village. Mike’s latest release, Life Is Not A Football, released April, 2017 (Royal Potato Family) is “A recording with the Big Easy coursing through its veins and equal parts Frank Zappa and The Butthole Surfers in its DNA. Life Is Not A Football, is a no-holds-barred affair, complete with rallying cries for justice, truth-to-power political and existential rants and plenty of inside joke

Animas City Theatre PresentsGangstagrass with People We KnowSaturday April 2ndDoors 7:00pm / Show 8:00pm / 21+Proof of vaccination (Physical card or picture of card on phone is accepted) or a negative PCR test with 72 hour time stamp needed to enter venueGangstagrass brings together two kinds of American music and creates a third, greater than the sum of the parts. Developed as a studio project 15 years ago by Brooklyn-based producer Rench, Gangstagrass grew into a dynamic and spontaneous live band of Americans — from Omaha Nebraska, Pensacola Florida, Philadelphia Pennsylvania, Washington DC — who have become close friends. Several work hard at other jobs (one teaches computer programming, another works at a comic book shop) to support their passion for making music, and four are dads, with kids ranging in age from baby through starting college. The band has released six full-length albums with dozens of appearances on the Billboard Top 10 bluegrass chart. Gangstagrass tracks have featured Nitty Scott MC, Dead Prez, Demeanor, Kaia Kater, and legendary rap team Smif-N-Wessun among others. Rench, the Brooklyn-based country and hip-hop producer who is the Mastermind behind Gangstagrass, crafted the instantly-recognizable Long Hard Times to Come featuring T.O.N.E-z that opened every episode of FX show Justified and earned Gangstagrass a 2010 Emmy nomination for Best Theme Song – more proof that Gangstagrass “paved the Old Town Road.” Putting down roots and branching out across never-before-bridged genres, Gangstagrass has delighted crowds and has blown minds across the world, garnering a reputation among fans for dynamism and spontaneity. From SXSW to Grey Fox to the Americana Festival to music festivals abroad, these live performances explode the boundaries between genres generally thought to be incompatible. Howie Mandel described Gangstagrass as “the recipe that America has been looking for until now” and “what America needs right now!”Taking full advantage of the improvisational aspects and virtues of both hip-hop and bluegrass, including frequent three-part harmonies, MCs Dolio the Sleuth and R-SON the Voice of Reason trade verses and freestyle alongside the unparalleled skills of fellow vocalists Dan Whitener on banjo, B.E. Farrow on fiddle, and Rench on guitar and beats. The new Gangstagrass album No Time for Enemies was released in August 2020 and quickly rose to #1 on the Billboard bluegrass charts, as the band continues to explore new sonic territory while showing how amazing the sound of America is when it all comes together.
