The River Arkansas & Joshua Polaris

The River Arkansas & Joshua Polaris 18+The River ArkansasIn the winter of 2014, Mike Clark penned a collection of songs about heartbreak, love, and escaping the clutches of day-to-day society. The following spring, Clark decided to make that collection into a record.  By good fortune Macon Terry, a bass player and former member of the band Paper Bird, happened to be in the neighborhood the day the studio was booked for recording. Though Terry arrived not knowing any of the songs, what they captured was the beginning of something great.  Later they would add Robin Chestnut on drums, Rachel Sliker on violin, and Benjamin Gallagher on piano. With the release their third studio album “Any Kind of Weather” the band has hit their stride, traveling the mid-west, south, and western United States as well as playing festivals all across Colorado, delivering their distinctive mixture of Country, Blues, Folk and Americana.   www.theriverarkansas.com https://www.facebook.com/theriverarkansas https://youtu.be/ywTBpm4eazs https://youtu.be/Jk6kZpvvjL4https://youtu.be/mOYAxUuslNMJoshua Polaris is a Colorado based singer and songwriter who spent the last ten years touring with his group Elder Grown. Experience his solo adventure for a short time only while during the next year he explores folk music, acoustic guitar playing, and storytelling. This acoustic venture will act as a way to gather funding for planting trees around the world. Joshua Polaris’s style resembles Dave Matthews and John Butler, and blends folk, acoustic alternative rock, and chant into a heart moving sound that is filled with poetry, silence, space, and deep acoustic texture.

We will require I.D. to match the name on vaccination cards and negative test results. JD Simo… The Chicago-born, now Nashville transplant is like a one-man crusade dedicated to keeping music real, raw, and honest. No matter the setting and no matter his role (whether it’s wingman or bandleader)  J.D.’s presence infuses the situation of the moment with the music that’s been fueling him pretty much his whole life, spiced with influences that straddle both decades and dimensions. As a songwriter, guitarist, and producer he has worked with the likes of Jack White, Tommy Emmanuel, Luther Dickinson, Dave Cobb, Blackberry Smoke, and even been a member of Grateful Dead founder Phil Lesh’ “Phil & Friends”.  Now he comes forth with his most unique, original and rawest effort yet… “Mind Trouble”. During lockdown in ’20, he started cutting tracks in his makeshift studio on a weekly basis. Joined by longtime collaborator Adam Abrashoff on drums and the addition of longtime friend, bassist-producer-engineer Adam Bednarik (Justin Townes Earle), they mused a proverbial soup of shared influences. Hill country trance blues of Junior Kimbrough, RL Burnside and Asie Payton. Hypnotic Afro Beat of Fela Kuti and Tony Allen. Psychedelic warps of Captain Beefheart, Funkadelic, and Jimi Hendrix. The old school blues of John Lee Hooker, Earl Hooker and Lightnin Hopkins. As well as the raw fuzzy rock of The Stooges and Nirvana. Mind Control is the product of 3 like minded buddies huddled in a humble setting, making music to make them feel good. The songs stark revealing nature, is the product of them using the creative process for therapy and enjoyment. GA-20: Blues music is revered for its timelessness. The best blues –no matter how old –sounds as fresh and visceral today as it did when first recorded. The high-energy electric blues trio GA-20 –guitarist Matt Stubbs, guitarist/vocalist Pat Faherty, and drummer Tim Carman –know this well. Since first forming in 2018, GA-20 has drawn inspiration for their primal, original music from late 1950s/early 1960s blues, R&B and rock ‘n’ roll. They use rare and vintage gear (including at times the famed Gibson GA-20 amplifier for which the band is named), creating powerfully raw, driving music that is at once traditional and refreshingly modern. The band’s dynamic self-penned songs sound and feel as fresh and real as the old blues they love and perform, including songs by Otis Rush, J.B. Lenoir, Howlin’ Wolf, Junior Wells and especially their favorite, Hound Dog Taylor. According to Stubbs, “Not enough people know just how cool Hound Dog Taylor was.”Legendary six-fingered Chicago bluesman Theodore Roosevelt “Hound Dog” Taylor always knew how he wanted to be remembered, declaring, “When I die they’ll say, ‘he couldn’t play shit, but he sure made it sound good!’” His first full length recording in 1971 was also the first album on now world-famous Alligator Records, Hound Dog Taylor & The HouseRockers. In fact, label president Bruce Iglauer founded Alligator for the sole purpose of recording and releasing that album. Fifty years later, Hound Dog Taylor & The HouseRockersis considered a classic of the genre, and Alligator boasts a catalog of over 350 blues and roots rock releases.

But it also never fails to remind us how hard-won that joy was and still is: not least in the tense, funky and explosive title track, with its declaration “My people, we’re still here.”   “Mardi Gras Indian songs are inherently songs about freedom,” the band’s drummer Joe Gelini says. “And that struggle is as relevant today as it’s ever been.” Popmatters describes the band as “a grand gumbo of singing, intoxicating rhythms, and deep funk grooves that are impossible to resist.”   —-   “I’ve seen the future of New Orleans music and its name is Cha Wa.” – Paste “Powerful, relatable, vibrant.” – NPR All Things Considered   “Cha Wa, with bass lines played on sousaphone plus trumpet and two trombones, bring the city’s brass band tradition to bear. Cash’d Out – “Next Best Thing to Johnny Cash “

Animas City Theatre PresentsCash’d Out – “Next Best Thing to Johnny Cash “Tickets on Sale 10:00am Monday June 21st at www.animascitytheatre.com21+Cash’d Out Bio: “Some people are impressionists. These guys leave an impression”.  Says Bill Miller, owner of Johnny Cash.com about Cash’d Out, a San Diego based band that channels Johnny Cash in about as close a manner to the real thing as it gets.    After thirteen years, traveling hundreds of thousands of miles on the road and winning over as many fans, fans who still continually tell the group how grateful they are that Cash’d Out so righteously carries the torch of the Johnny Cash Show.  Besides music critics anointing Cash’d Out as “the next best thing to Johnny Cash”, their highlights have been many:  W.S. Holland, Johnny Cash’s longtime drummer, has sat in with Cash’d Out;  front man, Douglas Benson, has played Johnny’s cherry sunburst Guild guitar (courtesy of Mr. Miller);  “Cindy Cash came to a show and was moved to give me a glass locket that was her father’s,” explains Benson;  Longtime Johnny Cash manager Lou Robin has also been to several Cash’d Out shows and claimed that if he closed his eyes it was as if “going back in time.”;  And most recently, an unforgettable evening performing the music of Johnny Cash with the San Diego Symphony as a special event for their Summer Pops Series.  The band’s live shows respectfully reference the late, great Man in Black’s Sun Records and early Columbia era sound, combined with the energy of the classic multi-platinum live recordings from Folsom Prison and San Quentin. The group’s genuine love (and authentic recreation) of Johnny Cash’s music and its universal appeal fans of all ages and of virtually all musical genres makes each Cash’d Out show a must-see event.  Or as Bill Miller says, “Some people are impressionists. These guys leave an impression.” http://www.cashdout.com https://www.facebook.com/cashdoutband https://www.instagram.com/cashdoutband
