Desert Dwellers is a diverse electronic music project that bridges the ancient and the future, fusing deep bass, world instrumentation, and psychedelic textures into immersive sonic journeys. Founded in 1999 by Amani Friend and Treavor Moontribe, the project grew out of the legendary Moontribe gatherings in the deserts of Southern California and has since become a cornerstone of global festival culture.
Blending influences from countless genres, Desert Dwellers has released dozens of albums and remixes, toured across five continents, and collaborated with an eclectic array of artists from around the world. Their music has graced stages at Symbiosis, Ozora, Lightning in a Bottle, Boom, Envision, Shambhala, and Burning Man, resonating with audiences through both meditative journeys and powerful dance floor experiences.
In 2025, Desert Dwellers entered its most significant evolution yet. Co-founder Amani Friend stepped away from touring to focus on studio production and other creative pursuits, while a new collaborator joined the project, acclaimed producer and mixing/mastering engineer Sarkis Mikael
The trio of Amani, Treavor, and Sarkis have begun co-creating a powerful new body of work, blending their distinct talents into an inspired next chapter. A reimagined live show is also in the works, which Treavor and Sarkis will debut in 2026.
While continuing to honor the project’s signature sound and ethos “Music Beyond Borders,” Desert Dwellers is now expanding into bold new sonic territories.
Smiley Coyote dwells in the southwest where the desert meets the mountains. Music has been streaming through his veins since birth. Having been engulfed by the electronic music evolution, he’s been along for the ride since the 90’s. West Coast festivals such as Burning Man, Symbiosis, Lightning in a Bottle and Beloved are what really sparked the desire to share musical journeys through DJing. He’s enjoyed sharing the stage with some of the top producers in the industry as well as performed for many festivals. His musical selections are genre-bending and able to appease most audiences as long as they enjoy a touch of bass. Sharing audible frequencies to the Ecstatic Dance community is his most fulfilling experience however. He crafts each and every set in the moment with only the dancers participation as his guide. As the co-producer of Unison Festival, he is constantly on the lookout for the freshest sounds to curate the southwest’s premier transformational festival.
DJ Panacea
Brady is a vocalist, songwriter, performance poet and DJ. His musical ear was tuned in utero as his parents sang carols on the Snowmass mall with him warmly nestled in his mother’s womb. His childhood was blessed with children’s choirs and music camps, and he performed in many musical productions along the way. After college, Brady took center stage as lead vocalist for Durango’s premiere Reggae band , A Dub Rock. Additionally, he was honored to provide backup vocals for the foundational beginnings of J-Calvin’s Funk Express. A special events DJ specializing in global dance music, Brady currently produces and performs Soma Sound Space, a twice monthly ecstatic dance experience in Durango, endearingly known as Dance Church, in room 208 of the Smiley Building on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of every month
